About the Event
Still Life Drawing at the Farmers’ Market
CI$65 • Materials and Refreshments Included
This artist-led workshop offers participants an opportunity to engage with the enduring practice of still life drawing in a relaxed farmers’ market setting. Open to both beginners and experienced practitioners, the session invites participants to slow down, observe closely, and explore the creative possibilities of drawing from life. With an emphasis on process-led making, the workshop encourages experimentation, material exploration, and individual expression. Working with a curated selection of market produce and still life objects, participants will investigate key formal elements including line, shape, colour, proportion, light, shadow, perspective, and composition.
Through guided prompts and practical support, participants will build confidence in observational drawing while experimenting with a range of media in a welcoming small-group setting.
Why attend? Part of Cayman Art Week, this workshop offers a calm and accessible introduction to still life drawing within the distinctive setting of the Farmers’ Market. The session has been designed to encourage creativity, mindful observation, and community connection through hands-on artistic practice.
What’s included? All workshop materials are provided, including paper, pencils, charcoal, Conté crayons, pastels, inks, and watercolours. Participants will work from a curated arrangement of still life objects and seasonal farmers’ market produce, and will receive a take-home art materials pack. Light refreshments will be provided, and a number of farmers’ market vendors will be open during the workshop.
About the Instructors: The workshop is led by mother-daughter duo Kathryn and Kaitlyn Elphinstone, whose practices reflect a shared engagement with Cayman’s natural environment, material exploration, and contemporary visual expression. Kathryn Elphinstone is an established painter and educator whose work explores the changing colour, form, and atmosphere of Cayman’s shorelines and seascapes across a wide range of media. Kaitlyn Elphinstone is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans digital media, assemblage, and found materials, with a focus on the Caribbean’s rich coastal and cultural landscapes. Together, they bring a wealth of artistic experience, thoughtful observation, and a deep commitment to creative enquiry. Event Partners
